About Acupuncture and My Approach

Acupuncture is not for everyone or everything; but it is effective for a lot of people for lots of things. According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture has been proven as an effective treatment for numerous conditions, including headaches, pain, vertigo, post-traumatic stress disorder, stress, painful menstrual periods, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, inducing labor, turning breech babies, fertility issues, diarrhea, and constipation.

Acupuncture has been a healing art for over 2000 years. According to Asian beliefs, illness occurs when there is an imbalance in the energy (Qi) of the Five Elements (Fire/Earth/Metal/Water/Wood), or in the Eight Principles (interior/exterior, yin/yang, excess/deficient, hot/cold) causing blockage or stagnation.
The intent of acupuncture is to bring the body and mind back into balance, via the acupuncture points along the 14 Channels. There are over 360 well-known acupuncture points.

There are many kinds of acupuncture. At A-A-Acupuncture, I see one person at a time, using a holistic, integrative approach to care, incorporating Western and Eastern medicine. I utilize Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as well as Five Element (5-E), Japanese, Meridian, Tan, and Neuro-Acupuncture techniques according to each patient's condition and concerns. A treatment might include Dry Needling, Sotai, Gua Sha, cupping, moxabustion, electro-stimulation or traditional acupuncture; every treatment is unique and individualized for each patient and his/her presenting conditions.
